FoodWorx Conference Feb. 4, 2014

The 2nd annual FoodWorx conference will be held on Tuesday, February 4th, 2014 at the Armory in Portland, Oregon.http://foodworxconference.com/

For passionate foodies and food industry leaders, FoodWorx is a conference that provokes thought, inspires creativity and creates dialogue around poignant food industry topics with an eye to what food issues will look like in the next 5 to 10 years. At FoodWorx we look at current trends that will shape food and drink production, manufacturing, travel, distribution and consumption, and also at important societal and environmental issues that the food industry faces from well-known experts in these fields. This year, among others, we have Gregg Abbott, of Oregon Street Foods Association and owner of Whiffie’s Fried Pies talking about the economic impacts of food carts on Portland, and Kurt Huffman, Owner of ChefSTable Group, behind various well-known Portland restaurants such as Gruner and St. Jack, speaking about what sells in the restaurant industry.

FoodWorx will always be held in Portland, Oregon because we think this city and state is the center of the foodie universe, and from the world’s best food trucks to high quality ingredients, it’s not hard to see why.

FoodWorx would also like to invite food trucks to participate in our Cascadian Cuisine reception, a showcase for the best of what our region has to offer. We are looking for 5 great food cart examples to sample to delegates at the conference. If you are interested in participating, please contact Erik Wolf at erik@worldfoodtravel.org or visit us here for more information and to sign up: http://foodworxconference.com/sponsors-exhibitors/sponsor-exhibit/

Welcome

Welcome to the Oregon Street Food Association or otherwise known as ORSFA. In October, 2011, a group of food cart and truck owners in Portland met at the Multnomah County Library to discuss the formation of this association. From that initial meeting we gathered concerns and notes and passion and thus here we are.

After that initial meeting, we gathered a smaller group to discuss the name, logo, mission statement and items like that. We’re in the forming stages, so bear with us as we navigate creating a group that is all inclusive and advocates for street food.

Those cart owners involved include Addy Bittner of Addy’s Sandwich Bar, Ali Akseki of Ali Baba’s, James King of The Frying Scotsman, Charlene Wesler of The Gaufre Gourmet, Gregg Abbot of Whiffies Fried Pies, Ed Sablan of PDX671 and me, Brett Burmeister of Food Carts Portland. As you can see, a wide range of individuals who want to see this created.

We know others want to be involved so we are scheduling another general meeting in November. We are securing a spot and the date and will announce that soon. In the meantime, we want to connect with you, the cart, truck and street vendors, so we can send out updates and information about the association. Please email info@orsfa.org with your name, vendor info and contact information.

We look forward to building a strong organization that advocates for street food vendors.
